End-Of-Life Photo Sessions To Capture Treasured Memories

A year ago on January 16, 2024, my shadow, my heart and soul dog, my photography muse, was diagnosed with a brain tumour. My world turned upside down.

What do we do? Do we seek additional treatment? Do we just give medication? Do we seek a second opinion? Do we spoil him rotten and give him all the hugs, snuggles and kisses we can? No choice will feel right, as we wanted him to live forever, just like every pet owner.

After speaking with his vet, his holistic vet and the neurologist, we decided to not seek treatment as due to his age and previous medical issues, the treatment would be too harsh on his system and who would we doing it for, just to buy, maybe an extra month or two.

So, we decided to spoil him rotten, since we did not know how much time we would have with him. I took him to all his favourite places: the beach, the trails, locations of his dock diving competitions, grandma’s house, parks where he could run around. He was given Timbits, his first McDonalds burger and pup-cups.

Then I had to do one of the hardest photo sessions I’ve ever had to do.

I photographed his End-of-Life Session.

Photographing your pet’s End-of-Life Session, is something that you’ll never regret doing.

Doing an End-of-Life Session, though hard, will be beautiful way to honour your pet by capturing the love and bond that you have for each other.

Capture any unique markings on your pet, that makes them so special, such as their eyes, the freckles on their nose or paws, the swirl or heart shaped marking in their fur.

These are the moments that will last forever and when the hurts slowly fades, the wonderful memories will come to the surface with treasured images.

I’ve had many people say to me that they wished they had done an End-of-Life photo session. The reason they didn’t was because they thought it would be awkward, a strange request and of course very emotional. Now they express their regret in not doing one.

Having gone through the emotions of losing a beloved pet and taking some treasured photos, my only wish is to help others with creating their own beautiful memories of their pet, their loyal companion and member of the family to treasure for the rest of their life.

Feel free to contact me to discuss about a photo session of your ill or aging pet. We can discuss your wishes for an End-of-Life session or even a photo session for your senior pet who is simply slowing down a little as they age.
